The Taboos of India
A vast stretch of land, multilingual in colour and diversified
in harvest, which cherishes a great dream shown by great persons throughout the
ages whetheher it be Chanakya, Swami Vivekananda,Akbar The Great, Ashoka The
Great and to say most recently Dr. APJ Abdul Kalam, the dream of a Unified Vision and a Unified
Nation, but the taboo is we only dream and dream and again re-dream and
re-live the eternal dream but never bother to understand or achieve that dream
and again and again we glorify the great Indian habit of procrastination. We
adore the message of brotherhood and indiscrimination and portray ourselves as
great visionaries but we do not accept this message on social front, this is a
taboo. We say a lot of things which should be done to uplift the deprived and to
empower the unempowered, but the taboo is most of us do not bother. We want
that someone else should do the things which all of us know should be done but
we do not want to be known as the CHANGE MAKERS but we have conditioned
ourselves to become CHANGE PRAISERS, this is a taboo because, if we respect
Mahatma Gandhi then how can we deceive his sayings, think yourself!
Folks, neither am I trying to bend this flow of expressions
towards the sea of some Utopian Vision nor am I trying to portray myself as
someone great who knows it all and who is trying to preach all of you, as some of you may feel.I am only trying to
remove the curtains of ignorance through my education and observations. All the
readers have full rights to disagree, but yes, only on pure logical grounds.
All right enough of my shielding, let us continue!
The country where there are countless Gods and Godessess,
numerous religions adulterated through selfish motives, of orthodox
stakeholders of every religion, this adulteration divides and divides
mercilessly, but still we talk of oneness and try to reflect fragile emotions,
this is a taboo. We love and desire to
be known as “Modern Citizens” and as far as my education is concerned modernity
has one of it’s features as ‘Broadening Up of Thoughts’ but most of us are the
same narrow minded and rigid Modern Orthodox People. The duality which we tend
to follow in some form or the other which we do or even which we think, isn’t
it a taboo? Everyone of us know what is correct and what is wrong but due to
our own satisfactory needs we get carried away with the wrong things, we read
lessons of great lives in our educational institutions, but our nourishment and
certficates of literacy do not equip us with courage of selfless distribution,
surely these things are taboo as per my notion , obviously, you can disagree!
When intolerance tussels go on regarding one issue, and then the arguments in
favour are countered regarding another issue, both the time we are deceiving
ourselves, when quite hillariously we portray our feeble sense of judgement on
the world’s canvas by fighting over the definition of patriotism and when the
media of a “Unified Nation” gets Divided over silly things for the sake of
cheap publicity, that time my wisdom doesn’t allow me to be a gaping onlooker,
and , thus I find these things as taboo. We say that our nation is a land of
great saints and messengers of the supreme power, then why for proving a mere
point, we degrade ourselves so much and wear the attire of hatred , anger, ego
and all negative values? Does it show character in our personalities, I am
quite sure , the answer is a big NO, this is also a taboo.
When very religion which the people of this country follow quite
blindly, says that killing an entity or anything which has life is a sin then
how can we justify the killing of a particular animal and abandon the other,
that too on religious grounds, this is just absurd,we call our nation by so
many names and regard her as a mother figure then how can we spit so easily
anywhere in this country? I must confess, without being too harsh that this is
absolutely ridiculous! At every step , we think something, we follow something
else and we do something else , are we confused ?
I am undoubtedly sure
that we are not because, this land has produced pearls which have glown and
shined to produce the light of enlightenment throughout the whole world, but it
is a fate that we ourselves have forgotten our own destiny due to chaos of
unwanted thoughts and losing faith in ourselves and believing in someone or
something more which has a virtual existenece , about which none of us are
quite sure.We showed the world the way to hope , faith , love and purity then
how have we have forgotten those great values, I strongly feel, the answer lies
within us only and if we are not able to find it out, we will again showcase
the Taboos of India (because we know it and we don’t at the same time). Wake Up
Folks, it really aches!!
